Important Research on Microaggressions in Therapy

Ok, friends. I don’t normally get super serious on here without a joke or a metaphor involving coffee… (or haven’t so far) but this one matters.

There is a research study focusing on something we need to talk about more in our field: racial microaggressions in therapy.

If you’re Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC) and have experienced microaggressions in therapy, please take the time to help us understand about these experiences.

Why? Because your story counts. And because the way we train and support therapists should reflect the lived experiences of the people we’re trying to serve.

What’s Involved

It’s a brief survey, just 15–20 minutes of your time.
No identifying info is required. It’s fully anonymous.
The first 50 participants will receive a $5 Amazon gift card as a small thank you.

If you choose to receive compensation, your email will be collected separately (and deleted after payment is made). Your responses will not be linked to your identity.

Who Can Participate?

You’re eligible if:

  • You identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC)
  • You’re 18 or older
  • You’re currently in therapy or have been in therapy
  • You’ve experienced microaggressions in therapy

Why This Matters

Therapy should be a space of healing, not harm. But many BIPOC clients have experienced microaggressions in therapy.

This study is about documenting those experiences, not to assign blame, but to raise awareness and push for better, more inclusive clinical practice.
